Packing And Shipping Guide
Concerned about the safety of your photo? Here are our suggestions:
Packing: To prevent damage to your original photo in shipping, place it between two sheets of corrugated cardboard and put it in a rigid photo mailer envelope, or better yet, in a cardboard box. Boxes are available at no charge at FedEx, UPS, or USPS.
Shipping: To minimize any remote chance of your parcel being lost in transit: use USPS "Certified" Priority Mail, or, use a shipping service, such as FedEx, UPS, or USPS that provides you with a tracking number. To increase the parcel’s safety even further, you may want to reduce its handling in transport, and use a next-day, or express delivery.
The photo restoration process requires several steps. They are digital scanning, computer-assisted restoration, and printing. Your original photo is not harmed or changed in any way. All of the restoration work is applied to a digital copy.
Scanning and Evaluation Process
Once we receive your original photo, we will evaluate the damage and plan the restoration process. Next, your image is scanned with a professional flatbed scanner, producing a computer file into our computer. We then adjust the exposure, contrast, and brightness levels to obtain the best image. Now we are ready to begin the actual restoration process.
Restoration
We start by removing the blemishes, spots, and stains. Next, we skillfully remove the cracks, rips, and tears, then blend these areas to match the surrounding parts of the photo. If parts of the picture are missing, we will use the surrounding picture area to create the missing parts. Once we are satisfied that the restoration work is complete, we make a print to check our work further.
Printing
From this digital file, actual photographic prints of your restored photo can be made, placed on a CD, or even attached as an email file.

Your original photo and the restored print(s) or photographic disk(s) are carefully packaged and returned to you via mail or express shipping. The process takes about ten business days, so allow enough time if you have a special occasion or holiday for which you want to have the photo(s).

Yes, a 100% electronic transfer is preferable. There is no time or money lost in shipping; you even save a few bucks in scanning costs. Consider, however, that the better the "raw material" we get, the better our results are. Therefore, we recommend doing all scans at 600 dpi (optical) on a quality scanner.
In general, yes. The scanning process will not harm the images. Shipping has an inherent risk of damage or loss, but you can do a lot to minimize this risk. Always ship with a quality shipper (we use FedEx, UPS, or USPS for return shipment) and be sure to package the images correctly see the Packing And Shipping Guide.
Many local print shops offer quality scanning at very affordable prices. Take your originals there to be scanned and ask for the scanned files on a CD.
